Douglas Eugene Featherston, Sr.

Douglas Eugene Featherston, Sr., 89, passed away on Saturday, February 10, 2018. He was born in Gaston County, son of the late John Laban (JL) and Dola Neva Beaty Featherston. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings and their spouses, Paul and Hazel Featherston, Ruth and Ray Brandon, Rev. Bob and Lois Featherston, and Nell F. and Fred Carpenter. Mr. Featherston was a lifetime resident of Cramerton where he lived a simple, Christian life. He was U.S. Army Veteran where he served with the 82nd Airborne and later retired from Norfolk-Southern Railway after 20+ years of service. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, and working in his garden. Mr. Featherston was known for his playful manner and quick smile. He was dearly loved by his family and friends.  

Mr. Featherston is survived by his wife of 44 years, Betty Jo Yow Featherston, his children, Doug Featherston, Jr. and wife, Sheryl of Cramerton, Mark Featherston and wife, Lisa of St. Petersburg, FL, and Cassie Featherston and Jim Whisnant of Seminole, FL, Dianne Morris and husband, Lynn of Stanley, and Bill Young and wife, Christine of Cramerton; his sister, Francis F. Bost also of Cramerton; thirteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and two great-greatgrandchildren.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Featherston will be held at 1:30 pm on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Burial will follow at Gaston Memorial Park, Gastonia. The family will receive friends from 12:00 - 1:30 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
