Clara Elva Hayden Wagstaff of Mount Holly passed away Thursday May 17th at her home. She was born in Patrick County Virginia to the late Lessie Predessie Dehart Hayden and William Roosevelt Hayden. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Franklin Lemar Wagstaff and her son Roger George Wagstaff. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Mount Holly. Elva enjoyed young people and valued education. She was a substitute teacher with Gaston County Schools for over 40 years. Sewing and gardening were lifelong hobbies, resulting in beautiful gardens and treasured quilts, cross stitch and custom clothing. Survivors include her daughter Rebecca Ann Wagstaff Perkins and husband Richard Eugene Perkins of Mount Holly, a son Larry Arnold Wagstaff and wife Janet Lee Ritchie of Charlotte, daughter in law Sherry Holt Wagstaff of Stanley; grandchildren Matthew Brian Perkins and wife Casey Lynn Griffith, Kevin Michael Perkins, Wanda Michele Wagstaff Throneburg and husband Eric Burton, Melanie Rose Wagstaff Raynor and husband Ernest Lee III, Jill Elaine Wagstaff Petro and Dennis Blaine, Leslie Erin Wagstaff Icenhour and husband Sean Andrew, and Celeste Danielle Wagstaff; great grandchildren Sophia Grace Perkins, Gabriel James Perkins, Miller Avery Icenhour, Knox Taylor Icenhour, Walter Burton Throneburg, Warren George Throneburg, Calen Noel Raynor, and Fynn Eli Petro. A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 pm on Monday May 21 at First Presbyterian Church in Mount Holly. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
