John Theodore "Ted" Gaston

John Theodore “Ted” Gaston, 86 passed away Friday July 20th at Levine & Dickson Hospice House in Huntersville.  He was born in Gaston County, son of the late Jasper and Mary Gaston.  He was a graduate of Belmont High School and later attended Belmont Abbey. As a multi-sport athlete in both High School and College, he was inducted into the Belmont Sports Hall of Fame in 2016 and is also on the ballot for the Carolinas Golf Association Hall of Fame. After leaving college, Ted Joined the Army.  After the Army, Ted began working at Duke Power and retired after 30 plus years.  He was a member of Hills Chapel United Methodist Church in Stanley.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers Jasper, Reid and Lamar.  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife Joyce, three children Sandra, John (Lori), and Gary (Andrea); six grandchildren; Jenifer, Matt, Heath, J.T., Lauren, and Spencer; and four great-grandchildren; Kirsten, Mackenzie, Chloe, and Lexi.  A service to celebrate his life will be held at 3:00 on Sunday July 22 in the chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly with the Rev. Sean Turner officiating.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Belmont.  In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Hills Chapel UMC Building Fund; 988 NC 16 Stanley, NC 28164 or to Levine & Dickson Hospice House-Huntersville; 11900 Vanstory Dr. Huntersville, NC 28078.  Online condolence messages may be sent to www.woodlawnfuneral.org; Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly is serving the Gaston family.
