Sarah Abernethy, 87, died on November 24, 2018. She was born on April 20, 1931 in Catawba County, NC and was the daughter of the late Laura Mae Connor Bowen and James Thomas Bowen. She lived in Alexis, NC for over 60 years, then moved to Hoover, Alabama, in 2015, to be near her daughter, where she lived until her death.
Sarah is preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Jack Abernethy, her sister Helen Bowen Rudisill, and her brother Lewis Bowen. She is survived by her sister Louise Rimmer and husband Don; daughter, Jackie Hardgrove and husband, Denson, of Hoover, AL; three grandchildren: Abby Hardgrove of New Orleans, LA; Haley Clay and husband, Walt, of Aguascalientes, Mexico and their three children, Evaleigh, Olivia, and Henry; Wes Hardgrove and his wife, Alyssa Weeks, of Greenville, SC. Sarah also leaves behind many nieces and nephews, other extended family, and many friends.
The family will receive friends at Alexis Baptist Church on Thursday, November 29 from 10:00-11:00 am at Alexis Baptist Church. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am at the church. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Woodlawn Funeral Home, of Mount Holly, is serving the family.
