Shealy Edsel Scruggs

Shealy Edsel Scruggs, 92, passed away on Saturday, February 2, 2019. He was born in Cherokee County, SC, son of the late Thomas Clayton and Mamie Hammett Scruggs. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jean Jolly Scruggs; his son, Randall Mark Scruggs; his brother, A.D. Scruggs; sisters, Julia Godfrey and Jerene S. Hucks; half-brother, Kurt Scruggs and half-sister, Lily Pennington. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army where he served as a military police officer, and a member of Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his children, Sheldon Ray Scruggs (Janey), Cynthia Scruggs Lee (Alan) and daughter-in-law, Janet Scruggs; his grandchildren, Christopher Scruggs, Robby Scruggs, Curtis Scruggs and Paige Lee; and his great-grandchildren, Heaven and Caroline.

A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Scruggs will be held at 3:00 pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2019 at Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, Charlotte. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm on Tuesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to David's Table, c/o Moore's Chapel United Methodist Church, 10601 Moore's Chapel Road, Charlotte, NC 28214.
