Alvin Smith Obituary

Alvin Smith, age 68, of Gastonia, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.  Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late Mary Ruth and Holkum Coleman Smith.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers David and Ronald Smith, and his twin brother Calvin Smith.  Alvin was a member of Berea Baptist Church in Gastonia and will be remembered for his love of playing his bass guitar and for being a loving husband, father, and grandfather.  Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 45 years, Diane; children Nikki Smeltzer and husband Mike, Melissa Morgan and fiancé Daniel, and Tonya McClure and husband Tony; three grandchildren Chris Smeltzer, Katelyn Johnson, and Courtney Johnson.  The family would like to give a special thanks to the staff of Advanced Home Care and to Rodney Scruggs for their kindness and care for Alvin.  A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held 11:00 am Saturday, June 16 at Berea Baptist Church, 2522 Hickory Grove Road, Gastonia officiated by Pastor Rick Ivey and Rev. Marshall Owens.  The family will receive friends for an hour prior to the service beginning at 10, also at the church and at other times at the home of Nikki and Mike Smeltzer, 1140 Peppertree Drive, Mt. Holly, NC.
