Bennie was born on January 17, 1947 to the late Carl and Ruby Heath Godwin in Harnett County, NC. He grew up in Wade, NC and graduated from Central High School. He was retired from Duke Energy. On January 11, 2021, Bennie's assignment here on earth was completed and now he knows the wonder of being in the presence of God. Leaving the family he cherished, knowing they were loved, treasured, and prayed for. He was very aware of the importance of a life lived to serve others.
Bennie is survived by the love of his life, Peggy Brown Godwin, his wife for over 54 years. He was the loving father to Bryan Godwin (Tonya) and Jenny Godwin Penley (Toby). He was the proud grandfather of Devin Argy, Caleb Broome, and Jacob Broome. Special uncle to Sonja Brown Anderson (Danny). Numerous nieces and nephews. He was a special "Paw-Paw" to JuJu. Always remember that he still lives on through you and the things of God he taught you. A legacy founded in faith. Find great joy in your grief.
Bennie was preceded in death by his brothers, Wythe, Tim, and Scottie. Also, his sister Pennie Godwin Mason.
Bennie loved his church, Second Baptist, Mount Holly, NC, where he was an active member. He was a true friend. He enjoyed spending time with his Second Baptist golfing buddies, his high school classmates, and his Riverbend coworkers. One of his greatest joys was the years restoring a 1963½ Ford Galaxy 500XL with his nephew Danny.
Sometimes we don't realize how much of a treasure someone is until they are gone. Thank God daily for you blessings and be sure to tell someone what a treasure they are to you.
