Charles Herman Stephens, 89 of Stanley, went to be with the Lord and was reunited with his wife of 68 years on January 15 at his home. He was an avid sports fan and in his later years made it his goal to attend all the American Legion World Series baseball games in Shelby, NC. He was a veteran of the US Navy and had so much pride for his country and respect for those who serve. He also cherished his times with “The Hardees Boys”, who became some of his most valued relationships. He was a long-time member of the Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church, where he served as Sunday School teacher for 25 years and served in many leadership roles. He was a doting grandfather to his two granddaughters, Corie and Brooke Henderson. He was a loving father of his two daughters, Lamar Evans and Starr Henderson and made sure that there was always a favorite competition between his two sons-in-law, Gus Evans and Dan Henderson. When it comes to being a brother, he was the best big, protective brother to his sister, Delia Stephens. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 68 years, Valda Stephens, his mother, Louise Stephens and his father, Herman Stephens.
We invite his friends and ours to help us celebrate his homecoming on Wednesday, January 18th at 2:00 for a graveside service at Hillcrest Cemetery in Mount Holly, NC. We invite you to come early at 1:30 for a pre-celebration and time of remembrance. The service will be brief and in order to assist those who have trouble standing, extra chairs will be provided. Memorials may be made to Corie Henderson Mission project at www.worldim.com/1313.
