Chesley "Dan" Daniel Giles, Jr.

Chesley Daniel Giles (Dan), 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 8, 2019. He was born in Oconee County, SC. He was preceded in death by his father, Chesley Daniel Giles, Sr.  Dan attended Young Harris College, where he met his wife. He later graduated from Atlanta Law School. He enjoyed his work in management of industrial equipment repair and retired as plant manager. As a member of Christ UMC, Charlotte, he served in many capacities, including working with their food pantry, participating with mission building teams, and serving with Room in the Inn. He enjoyed spending time gardening, tinkering with his HAM radio and watching Star Trek.

Dan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and son. His greatest joy was his family. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Judith Ann Smart Giles; his daughter, Wendi Giles Byas and husband, Karl; his mother, Imogene King Giles; and his two grandchildren, Kelly and Owen Byas, whom he loved dearly.

A memorial service to celebrate Dan's life will be held on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Christ UMC, Charlotte. The family will receive friends from 2:00 until 3:00 pm on Sunday at the church.
