Doris (Cope) Rhyne

Doris Cope Rhyne, 91, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024.  She was born in Montezuma, NC to the late Charles and Gladys Cope.  In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband Bud Rhyne, brother Bill Cope, sister Joyce Reid and beloved daughter Sheree Gibson.   

Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter Susan Martin (Woods), son in law Ronald Gibson, Grandsons Colby Martin (Ria), Bryce Martin, and Knox Gibson (Emily).  Great granddaughters Nora and Zoe Martin ; her sister Jewel Carruthers, sister in law Doris Cope, and many precious nieces and nephews.  She will be missed by many treasured friends.  A friend once said " When you're with Doris, you know you're in good company."  In 1952, Doris embarked on a journey of love and companionship when she married Bud Rhyne.  They enjoyed life and traveled to all the states and England to visit a life long pen pal.  She was a precious mother, mother in law, and her three grandson's held a special place in her heart.  She taught us all Gods word and the importance of trusting in Jesus.  Doris attended Stanley United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday School teacher, financial secretary, and Church Librarian.  She was a Girl Scout Leader and member of Stanley 16 friends Book Club. Reading was her joy.  She worked for the Gaston  County Library System.  Doris was a skillful seamstress.  She specialized in draperies and dresses for herself and for her daughters.  Doris loved to redecorate a room and throw a party.  She loved wearing costumes at Halloween and her annual Family Talent Show.  It was a special event at her home for the entire family.  Doris continued to spread joy wither her beautiful smile and sweet compliments to the very end. 

The family wishes to express a special thank you to the precious caregivers Pat Hall and Sandy Shepker, as well as the wonderful staff at the Garden Wing at Covenant Village and VIA Health Partners (Hospice).  The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday March 8, 2024 at Common Ground in Stanley (5481 Hickory Grove Rd. Stanley, NC 28164).  A service to celebrate her life will follow at 2:00 P.M. on Friday also at the Church.  Arrangements are in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home of Mount Holly.
