Edmund Morton, 93, of Old Hickory Grove Rd., a loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and dedicated Christian, went to be with the Lord on Monday, July 25, 2022, surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late Preston and Maggie Horne Morton. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Rabon Morton; his siblings, Presaline Clark, Inez Burton, and Annie Mae Clark; his son-in-law, John E. Jones; and special friend, Nell Crouse. Mr. Morton was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served during the Korean conflict. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church for over 60 years, where he remained active until he became a shut-in. He was a retired truck driver for Carolina Freight of Cherryville, Lowell Terminal, where he served as the union representative.
Mr. Morton is survived by his children, Dale Robert Morton (Terri) of Dallas, Dean Edmund Morton of Mount Holly, and Diana Jones of Cramerton; his grandchildren, Dawn Jones Baxley (Preston), Wendy Jones McGinnis (Brian), Joanna Jones Ritchie, and Jaclyn Morton Duncan (Kendall); his great-grandchildren, Brianna McGinnis, Camden McGinnis, Cole Baxley, Tenley Ritchie, and Emma Grace Duncan; his brother, Clifton Lee Morton; and a number of nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Morton will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, July 29, 2022, at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, Gastonia. Pastor Dan Crowley will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. on Friday at the church.
