Gary Dean Hughes

Gary Dean Hughes went to Heaven on December 24, 2020 after his battle with cancer. He was a native of Belmont, NC and is survived by his mother, Elene Hughes; his sisters, Barbara Bingham, Joann Gittens, Karen McCoig, and Kathy Barlow; many aunts and uncles; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Gary worked at Witten Vent Co. of Gastonia. He was a quite, humble man who loved his family. He was a devoted son who took care of his mother for many years.

Diagnosed with cancer in June 2020, he fought hard to live. During his fight he gave his heart to Jesus. He didn't complain or feel sorry for himself. He would as his sister, Joanne, if he would make it and she would try to reassure him that if he didn't get healed on Earth, he would be healed in Heaven. They would pray and God gave him peace.

A private family service will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2021 at the Woodlawn Chapel of Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mount Holly. Rev. Robert Gittens, IV will officiate. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery, Mount Holly. Pallbearers will include Chris Hughes, Robbie Gittens, Austin Barlow, Holden Barlow, Jason Bingham, and Alex McCoig.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cancer Services of Gaston County, 3065 Columbia St., Gastonia, NC 28054.
