George "Bud" Haywood Phillips, of Springwood, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021, at Caromont Regional Medical Center. He was the son of the late Jim and Lee Phillips. Bud was preceded in death by daughters Tracy Phillips Hill and Linda Phillips Sherrill; a brother Jimmy Phillips; and a sister Joyce Cassada. Bud is survived by his wife of 66 years, Edna Reese Phillips; brother Grayson Phillips "Dick"; daughters Debbie Conroy (Kenny) and Julie Phillips (Robbie); a son, Travis Phillips (Cara); grandchildren Ron Lunsford (Dana), Krystal Conroy, Kenny Conroy (June), Tim Lunsford, Kevin Conroy (Tanya), Kelly Hawkins (Yahsh), and Pam Sherrill; great grandchildren, Kristen Millwood (Jacob), Payton, Hunter, Kayleigh, Mallory, Kaidence, Aleigha, Scarlet, Jude, and Oliver; and special friend Vernon Cope. The family will greet guests from 1:30 until 2:30 Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at Sharon Free Will Baptist Church, 410 Reese Street in Gastonia. A service to celebrate his life will be held immediately following at 2:30, also at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
