Geraldine Bryant Keener

Geraldine Bryant Keener, age 93, of Stanley, died Wednesday, May 23 at Stanley Total Living Center.  Born on February 21, 1925 in Murray County, Georgia, she was the daughter of the late William and Beulah Randolph Bryant.  She graduated Murray County High School in 1944.  She then attended a business school in Chattanooga, Tennessee.  She obtained employment at Bell Aircraft Corporation, Georgia Division, Marietta, Georgia.  Geraldine worked in the riveting department.  Because she was small in stature, she was able to crawl into a small area, where she was called a bucker.  As the rivet was inserted on the front side, she bucked her side of the rivet to the front portion to complete the riveting process.  In December 1946, after his return from a three-year service tour in the Navy, Gerri married her husband of 70 years, William J. Keener.  They had three children: Gary, Mikey (who died at seven years of age), and Kimberly.  During their long and loving marriage, they resided in Cleveland, Tennessee, Greenville, South Carolina, and retired to Charlotte, North Carolina in 2000.  Since Mr. Keener's passing in 2014, Geraldine has resided at Stanley Total Living Center.  Those left to cherish her memory include her children Kimberly Hull and her husband Gary and Gary Keener and his wife Judie Wagner; her two sisters Betty Bandy and Elsie Deverell; grandchildren Kelley Newsome, Tracey Keener, Allison Moody, and Britt Hull; great grandchildren Rachel Webb, William Keener Webb, Emory White, Cassidy White, Mackenzie Moody, Kennedy Moody, Zoe Moody, and Liam Hull.  A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:30 pm Sunday, May 27 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.  The family will greet guests for 30 minutes prior to the service also at the funeral home beginning at 2:00 pm.
