Gladys Irene (Nash) York Henderson

Mrs. Gladys Irene Nash York Henderson, 97, of Stanley, was surrounded by family when she went to her heavenly home on Easter Sunday, April 1, 2018.  Gladys was the daughter of the late Jep and Florence Nash who instilled a strong work ethic in their children which lasted throughout her life.  She grew up in Monroe NC and had many stories to tell of growing up on a farm and playing basketball.  Mrs. Henderson worked at Climax Mills in Belmont NC prior to her retirement.  She was a faithful member of Faith Baptist Church in Iron Station and loved all the members.  Her true passion was her family who benefited from her wisdom and love.  The Lord blessed Gladys with extraordinary crafting talent - primarily quilting and embroidering.  She especially loved giving pillowcases that she embroidered to her family and friends.

Mrs. Henderson is preceded in death by her husbands, Amos York and Truman Henderson, her parents, and siblings, Eunice Price, Heath Nash, Homer Nash, Harold Nash and Bernice Helms, and son-in-law, Barry Friday.

She is survived by son Jerry and wife Sudie York of Stanley NC; son Mo and wife Linda York of Mt. Pleasant SC; daughter Sharon Friday of Stanley NC; grandchildren, Shana and husband John Biggerstaff of Mt. Holly NC;  Chris York and Carrie Cox of Kannapolis; Craig Friday and Lauren Milton of Charlotte NC; Patricia and husband Randy Williams of Stanley NC; and great-grandchildren, Johnathan Biggerstaff, Emily Biggerstaff, Sarah York, Brandon Ritter; Corey York, Caroline York, Samantha Williams and Mick Williams; brother Joe Nash of Monroe NC and sister Doris Greene of Monroe NC, as well as numerous beloved nieces and nephews.  She was especially blessed to have Mary Watson (husband Larry Watson) care for her for many years and considered her as a daughter.  The family thanks Gaston Hospice for the loving care they provided during the last months.  Visitation will be at 11:00 am with funeral following at 12 noon on Thursday, April 5 at Faith Baptist Church at 5194 Old Plank Road, Iron Station NC.  Burial will be in the church cemetery immediately following the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at Faith Baptist Church, 5194 Old Plank Road, Iron Station NC 28080 or to Gaston Hospice, 258 East Garrison Blvd, Gastonia NC 28054, online donations at gastonhospice.org
