Glenda Mae Helms Haynes, 75, of Charlotte, went to be with Jesus, after battling congestive heart failure, at 4:36 p.m. on Sunday, November 11, 2018 at her home. She was born in Landis, North Carolina, daughter of the late Viola Mae Price and Rev. Howard Lee Helms, Sr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother Howard Lee Helms, Jr. She was a thirty-five-year breast cancer survivor. Glenda was a cosmetologist by trade and a homemaker. She married her husband James Allen Haynes in 1963 in Biltmore, North Carolina. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband Rev. James A. Haynes of the home; daughters Angela Haynes Berry (Jefferey L.) of Stanley, North Carolina, Michelle Haynes Sprankle (Randall B.) of Cheyenne, WY, and Cynthia A. Haynes of Long Beach, CA; a granddaughter Amanda Lee Berry of Stanley, North Carolina; and a sister Debra Helms Hall of Hope Mills, North Carolina. A service to celebrate her life will be held 12:30 p.m. Saturday, November 17, 2018 at South Gastonia Church of God, 310 Carolina Avenue, Gastonia, with Rev. Bobby Gilley and Rev. James A. Haynes officiating. The family will greet guests for a half hour before the service at the church beginning at noon. Interment will follow the service at Forest Lawn West Cemetery, Charlotte.
