Joanne (Helms) Blankenship

Joanne Helms Blankenship passed away on February 9, 2021 at the home in Mt. Holly, North Carolina. She was born in Mt. Holly on November 9, 1933 to Walter B. Helms and Pauline K. Helms. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Bonnie H. Walker. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Bobby E. Blankenship; daughter Denise McKay (Bill) of Lake Wylie, SC; daughter Maria Morrison (Tommy) of Iron Station, NC; grandchildren Mark McKay (Heather) of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Kelly McKay of Summerville, SC, Adam Morrison (Amanda) of Stanley, NC, Hannah Allen (Trenton) of Stanley, NC; and six great-grandchildren, Morgan, Avery, Aiken, Sophia, Addley, and Emersyn. Joanne worked for many years at R L Stowe Mills in Belmont in the office. She played Canasta with a group of wonderful friends of 55 years and enjoyed surf fishing. Joanne belonged to the First Baptist Church in Mt. Holly. Belonging to the Order of the Eastern Star, she just received her 60 year service pin. A special thanks to Gaston Hospice. There will be a private family graveside service at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Holly. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Gaston Hospice, 258 E. Garrison Blvd, Gastonia, NC 28054. Arrangements are in the care of Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.
