In loving memory of Leslie Shae Cooke-Stroud
Age 52, died peacefully at her home on Tuesday, November 9th 2021 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Shae was born January 20th 1969, to the late Robert “Bob” Cooke Jr. of Gaston County and Julia Wilson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She was a graduate of North Gaston High School and attended Gaston College. She worked as an executive assistant for many years after that. A loving wife, mother, sister, and friend. She lived her life to the fullest by spending time with family and friends. Shae was devoted to helping the ones close to her. Chuck, her husband, has never left her side. Through her husband’s prodding she started to enjoy fishing and eating cabbage. Maybe that was just so she could spend time with him. Her daughter, Anna, was the joy of Shae’s life from the day she was born. She enjoyed taking beach trips with her grandmother and spending time outside. She told her husband, “I’ll help with the yardwork, if you do the cooking.” Shae loved her church family. She always wanted to help at the church any way she could. Even last year while going through chemo she took the time to make her famous Oreo balls for a lady’s event. Those always sold out. She touched each of our lives in many different ways. Shae’s smile lit up every room she walked into and always knew how to make people laugh. Most importantly she was a strong woman.
Preceded in death by her father Robert “Bob” Cooke Jr. Shae is survived by her husband Chuck Stroud of Gastonia, her beloved daughter Anna Mackensie Wooten, stepdaughter Julia Stroud, stepsons Bryson and Barrett Stroud; mother Julia Wilson of Myrtle Beach; brothers Clint Wilson of Holden Beach, Joseph Wilson and wife Kelly of Chicago; step mother Martha Cooke of Gastonia, sister Tish Cooke and husband Shan Barrett of Ormond Beach.
The family will be receiving friends on Saturday, November 13th 2021 from 2:30-4:00 PM followed by a Celebration of Life service at Promised Land Baptist Church, 1024 Old Modena St. Gastonia, NC 28054.
