Mary (Bunk) Catherine (Abernathy) Boggs

Mary Catherine (Bunk) Abernathy Boggs, 91, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018. She was born in Gaston County, daughter of the late Eli Curby and Annie Pearl Brown Abernathy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Andy Boggs; a son, William Kirby Boggs; a sister, Ollie Helms; and three brothers, Bill, Sonny, and Don Abernathy.

A member of Alexis Baptist Church, Bunk was a one-of-a-kind individual who loved her family immensely. She possessed skills as a gardener that were unsurpassed and was an amazing cook, especially her chicken and dumplings. Granny, as she was known to her family, had a wonderful sense of humor and loved watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren at play as well as entertaining the family with her humorous story-telling.

She is survived by her children, Judy Boggs Greer, Joyce Boggs McClure (Roger), and Alvin Steve Boggs (Denise); her sisters, Lois Summey (Gertis) and Becky Shelton; her brothers, Bob Abernathy (Jane), Mick Abernathy, and Ben Abernathy (Marie); her grandchildren, Scott Wyant, Maria Wyant, Brian Wyant, Greg McClure, Andy McClure, Deanna Devine, and Lauren Sherrill; and seventeen great-grandchildren.

A service to celebrate Mary's life will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Alexis Baptist Church with Pastor Scott Jenkins officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. The family will also greet guests on Sunday, December 23 from 1:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the home of Alvin Boggs, 1010 Mariposa Road, Stanley, NC 28164.
