Naomi Huffstetler Cannon age 97 met Jesus on July 28, 2021. Mrs. Cannon was born in Dallas, North Carolina to the late Bertha Jane (Wyont) and Oscar B. Huffstetler on January 21, 1924. She graduated Dallas High School in 1942. She was the oldest of three children and was sister to Libby Dean Van Dyke (deceased) and Franklin Reeves Huffstetler (deceased). She was married to her soulmate James (Jim) W. Cannon for 52 years and became the mother of Sharon Cannon Cantrell (Jim) and Meredith Cannon Hannon (Ron, deceased). She was the proudest grandmother of Susan Elizabeth Cantrell (deceased), Jamie Cantrell (Grace) and Brent Cantrell (Charity, deceased), Brian D. Hannon (Melissa), Robert J. Hannon (Leigh) and Melissa H. Kadel (Bret). She is also survived by her sister-in-law Brenda Huffstetler and 7 nieces and nephews. As a child, Naomi, attended Puett Chapel Methodist Church, Dallas, and in 1951 became an active member of the First United Methodist Church, Stanley, where until the time of her death, she was the oldest living member. Mrs Cannon was a Girl Scout leader and a long-time member of the United Methodist Women. She made the best pie pastry and iced tea for the numerous chicken pie and hobo dinners. She loved traveling and Daddy often said her middle name should have been “Go”. Naomi traveled to Europe along with her girls and her sister. She had visited all 50 of the United States. Woodlawn Funeral Home, Mt. Holly, will be in charge of services. Visitation will be held Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 12:30 until 2:00 p.m. at Woodlawn Funeral Home and services will follow in the chapel at 2:00. Services will be officiated by Noel Sweezy, Pastor First United Methodist, Stanley. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Gardens, Mt. Holly. Sharon and Meredith would like to thank family members and friends who have held vigil and prayed with them as well as the caring staff of Gaston Hospice. Donations may be made to First United Methodist Church Food Pantry and/or Building Fund, Stanley, NC or Gaston Hospice.
