Samuel "Willis" Watkins Sr.

Samuel Willis Watkins Sr., 81, of Charlotte went home to be with the Lord on April 14, 2024. Willis was born to the late Mason Baxter Watkins Sr. and Annie Moser Watkins on July 14th, 1942. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Robert Allen Watkins.  He worked for Charlotte Fire Department for 25 years and never once met anyone who thought he was anything less than a hero. He was a friend to many, a leader to most, and loved by all. Willis was an avid hunter, gardener, and beekeeper. He was happiest when outside and his love for God was outwardly expressed through the love he showed his friends and mostly his family. 

Willis is survived by his wife of 63 years, Jo Watkins; Daughter, Terri Crump and husband Jimmy; son, Samuel Watkins, Jr. and wife Robin. He had 4 grandchildren, that he adored, Damon Crump (Kacy), Candis Gray ( Jamie), Madi Watkins Hennessee (David) and Mason Watkins. He had 5 great grandchildren- Joshua Gray, Payton Gray, Hannah ( Brian), Carson Gray, Bailey Hennessee and Ivy Crump. A memorial service will be announced at a later time.

The family would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr. Carrizosa and the medical staff at Levine Cancer Institute as well as the primary care staff at South Point Family Practice as he received the best care over the last 8 years.
