Shirley Kirby McGinnis, 78, passed away on Monday, June 20, 2022 following a period of declining health related to Crohn's Disease.
Shirley was born on July 31, 1943, to the late James V and Margaret Kirby. She grew up in Caldwell County. She attended Granite Falls High School and Catawba Valley Community College. Later in life she lived and worked in Catawba County. During her retired years, she lived on a farm in Alexis, Lincoln County with her beloved husband, Buddy Larry McGinnis, who survives her.
Those left to cherish her memory are a son, Duane Bumgarner, of Granite Falls; a daughter, Donna B. Bailey and son-ion-law J. Mark Bailey, of Hickory. Grandchildren, Thomas Bailey, of Newton; Lauren Bailey, of Asheville. Included also are her step-children; Buddy Lewis McGinnis and Oliva, Sherry Clemmer and Michael, Brian McGinnis and Heather, all of Alexis.
She is survived by brothers, Jerry (Pat) Kirby, Dean (Brenda) Kirby, Roger (Diane) Kirby, all of Granite Falls; and Kenny Kirby of Hildebran; a sister, Loretta S. Hefner, of Hickory, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, in Alexis where she attended, on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 4:00pm. The visitation will be preceding in the church sanctuary at 3:00pm. Pastors Nathan Morgan and Phillip Tillman will be officiating. Following the service, the burial will be in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to one's favorite charity.
