Valda B. Stephens, 88, went to be with Jesus on December 15, 2022 at Caromont Regional Medical Center with her family by her side. She was born in Lincoln County, daughter of the late Joe and Pearl O'dell Babb, and was preceded in death by two brothers Rudolph and Jimmy Babb. She retired from Talon Zipper plant after 20 years of service, and later at Gaston County Dye Machine Company and later at First Presbyterian Church of Stanley Daycare. She was a longtime member of Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church where she had served as children's Sunday School Teacher, choir member, and Women's Ministry.
Left to carry on her legacy include her husband of 68 years Charles Stephens, two daughters Lamar Evans and husband Gus, Starr Henderson and husband Dan, and two granddaughters Corie and Brooke Henderson.
A service to celebrate her life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday December 18 at Stanley Pentecostal Holiness Church with Dr. Danny Penny officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:30 until service time. A private interment will be held Monday at Hillcrest Gardens Cemetery.
