David Wayne Love, 73, passed away Sunday, March 31, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer. Wayne, a beloved father, grandfather, and brother, was born in Charlotte, NC, on July 24, 1950 to David Allen “DA” Love and Eugenia Harrison Love.
Wayne graduated from West Mecklenburg High School in 1968. He was a dedicated employee at BellSouth, retiring in 2000 with 30 years of service. Wayne was also a skilled farrier for 26 years and an artisan blacksmith.
Wayne was an avid horse lover, a cowboy through and through. He loved riding horses, especially his childhood horse Smokey. Wayne enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, bird watching and walking through the woods.
Wayne was a doting father to his two daughters. He attended decades of dance recitals and many ballgames to watch them cheer. Wayne was a loving and playful “Granddaddy” to his four grandchildren. He attended many activities, always played games and spent time with them at every opportunity.
Wayne is survived by his two daughters, Robyn Love Fulton and husband Connor of Huntersville, and Courtney Love Baker and husband Ryan of Mount Holly; grandchildren Finley Caroline Fulton, Anderson Porter Fulton, Payton Brynn Baker, and Grayson Scott Baker; his two sisters, Terrie Love Collins and husband Ronnie of Charlotte, and Debbie Love Stevens and husband Ron of Sherrills Ford; and his many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends Friday, April 5, from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Woodlawn Funeral Home, 375 Woodlawn Avenue, Mount Holly, NC 28120.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 6, at 10:00 am at Woodlawn Funeral Home. Graveside service immediately following at Morris-Rankin Cemetery adjacent to 560 Sandy Ford Road in Mount Holly.
Memorials may be made in David Wayne Love’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
