On Monday, December 18, 2017, Sherry Ruth Williams McCoig our Mama, friend, confidant, & biggest fan, danced her way into Heaven. She was born to the late James Carsie Williams and Mabel Ruth McDaniel Williams. Mama was born & raised on the Chronicle Mill Hill in Belmont, N.C. When she married and settled in to start a family, her and dad resided on the Acme Mill Village in North Belmont, N.C. That's where they raised us four kids and gave us a multitude of extended family members and friends. To mom's & our mill hill family, our mama loved you. Never doubt that. Mama was a care-giver in every sense of the word. Besides working as a CNA, she took care of any & all family members who were recovering from surgeries, any sickness, grief, or whatever it may have been. Mama was there. Mom had a beautiful voice. She sung & traveled for years with The Jimmy Burnett Trio. She & dad teamed up for many years before that: dad on lead guitar & mom on vocals. Mom loved us with all her heart. But, her greatest love was Her Lord and Savior. You were a loyal servant, mom. And you've earned those wings. "In my house there are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you." A mansion, Mama! Your new & forever home must be glorious. Those left to cherish her memory include her four children Alex McCoig (Karen), Darla Beaty (Jeff), Darrin McCoig (Michelle), Paula Morris (Jeff); 11 grandchildren Joshua, Chris, Chasity, Tosha, David (D.J.), Tristan, Adam, Lee, Kymbre, Sara, and Jessie; 16 great grandchildren; brother Danny Williams (Barbara); sister in law Gail Williams; her life companion Dean McCoig; and her fur baby Sunny. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother Gary Williams. A service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Berea Baptist Church, 2522 Hickory Grove Road, Gastonia. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, December 22 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mt. Holly.
