Carroll Dean McCoig

On Sunday, December 24, 2017, Carroll Dean McCoig burst through the pearly gates of heaven to join hands with his beloved life-long companion, Sherry McCoig, and his lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Dad had stated that he couldn’t and wouldn’t live this life without his best friend and he has always been a man of his word.  Dad was raised on the Acme Spinning Mill Village in North Belmont, NC and began working at the mill as a spinning doffer at the age of 17.  He also worked as a spinning room supervisor before settling in the roller shop where he worked until retiring after 42 years of service.  Besides our mom, the one constant in dad’s life was his love of music.  He was a very talented guitar player and vocalist performing with The Freedom Gospel Boys, The Jimmy Burnett Trio, and The McCoigs.  He was born in Gaston County to the late Carl Dean McCoig and Bradine Wooten McCoig.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his life companion Sherry McCoig and a brother Larry McCoig.  Those left to cherish his memory include his four children Alex McCoig (Karen), Darla Beaty (Jeff), Darrin McCoig (Michelle), Paula Morris (Jeff); 11 grandchildren Joshua, Chris, Chasity, Tosha, David (D.J.), Tristan, Adam, Lee, Kymbre, Sara, and Jessie; 16 great grandchildren; his siblings Johnny McCoig (Sue), Randy McCoig, Jerry McCoig (Jackie); as well as two sisters in law Vickie McCoig and Carolyn McCoig.  A service to celebrate his life will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly.  The family will receive friends from noon to 1:30 p.m. prior to the service also at the funeral home.  Burial will follow the service at Berea Baptist Church Cemetery.
