Jack Martin

Jack Martin, 73, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2017. He was born in Cherokee County, SC, son of the late Cecil and Helen Vickers Martin. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by twin sons, Johnny and Jeffery Martin; a sister, Marty Fourshee; two nieces, Sadie Martin and Lori Elloit; and two nephews, Eddie Henline and Travis Clark.

Jack was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He retired after 31 years from Duke Energy as Superintendent of Transportation at the Toddville Garage in Charlotte. He was a member of Mount Zion Baptist Church and Gateway Cowboy Church where he served as an Elder.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Georgianna Wolfe Martin; his daughter, Julie Martin-Richard and husband, Jonathan of Fayetteville; three sons, Cecil Keith Martin and Judy Tunstall of Cornelius, Clifford Laurens Martin and wife, Sheri of Alexis, and Richard Clay Martin of Alexis; former daughter in law April; seven siblings, Margaret Ann Perkins of Stanley, David Martin and wife, Frances of Stanley, Linda Martin of Conover, Steve Martin and wife, Sherry of Alexis, Mike Martin and wife, Rhonda of Mount Holly, Dawn Moss of Stanley, and Denise Brotherton and husband, Jeff of Denver; thirteen grandchildren..

A service to celebrate the life of Jack will be held at 3:00 pm on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Mount Zion Baptist Church, Alexis with Reverends Joel Collette, Scott Whitener, and Mark Etchison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm on Wednesday at the church. Memorials may be made to Mount Zion Baptist Church, 2151 Mount Zion Church Road, Alexis, NC 28006.
